Chichester Triathlon Club host a 1.5 hour adult swim session every Tuesday between 20:00 – 21:30 at the Everyone Active Leisure Centre in Chichester.
With dedicated access to the 33.3 metre main pool, our swim sessions are a great way of quickly improving your technique and times by training in a group led by our awesome BTF (British Triathlon Federation) accredited coaching team.
Get one-one feedback, learn new drills and build strength and endurance all in an hour and a half that will be fun, informative and challenging.
Can’t manage the full 90 minutes? – no problem, just come and do what you can to build up your endurance.
All communications regarding club swims are via the SPOND App.
Sessions feature lanes 1-6 based 0n ability, to ensure you will always be in a group reflecting your level of swimming. Athletes will progress through the lanes as guided by our Lead coaches to help sustain your progression and keep the sessions fun and challenging.
Beginners must be able to swim six lengths of front crawl continuously before joining club swims so that we keep the sessions safe and enjoyable for all. Due to the group environment CTC are not able to teach you to swim from scratch, but our coaches can offer some advice on how to progress quickly to be able to join soonest.
We encourage all newcomers (beginners or accomplished swimmers) to join an initial session for an informal assessment before committing . The coaches will then discuss your training needs before suggesting an appropriate lane that maximises your development.
Swimming is a critical phase of triathlon. Whether you are going short and quick, or need well paced high efficiency for long distance endurance events, technique is critical and the build up of stamina vital. Our Tuesday swim training sessions are designed to help you improve your swimming and build race day fitness.
Each session is different and designed by our BTF accredited coaches to best reflect where we are in the triathlon on or off season.
The sessions include individual stroke analysis by our coaches, technique building and refining drills (including using pull buoys, floats and fins), speed and endurance sessions, to help improve technique in the pool.
The benefits of training
/ our swim sessions help you:
• Improve your speed through improving your technique
• Develop your swim fitness and strength
• Keeping a level streamlined body position
• Manage sprint vs longer swims distances efficiently
• Improve your hand and arm ‘catch’
• Rotate from the hips to assist breathing and reach
• Manage breathing and practice bilateral breathing
• Kick from the hip, not from the knee
• Understand how to draft faster swimmers to gain time
• Practice non-standing / deep water swim starts

While some triathlons are pool based, the majority triathlons will have an open water swim. To ensure you have a good race, it is important to familiarise yourself with open water swimming before an event. This gives you the opportunity to acquaint yourself with open water conditions and test out your kit: wet suit, goggles, swim hat etc.
There are opportunities for open water and sea swimming sessions with Chichester Triathlon Club during the warmer months. These are run as a supplement to our Tuesday sessions and are club member activated within our social media. These session are voluntary and not charged for.
Please note, these are not official club training sessions. Members are always reminded to take all necessary safety precautions and have a strong awareness of the water conditions and localised tide behaviours. We also strongly advise that members also research the open water and sea swimming advice of the RNLI and Open Water Swimming Society.
