Studland Bay Swim Run event 2025 – Race report

Studland Bay Swim Run event 2025 – Race report Stuart Wilson.

Last Saturday, Andrew W George, John Bullard and I travelled down to Dorset to compete in the Studland Bay Swimrun event.

In swim run events, you alternate between trail running and open water swimming along a marked course.

There are no transitions, you run and swim in a shorty wetsuit and your trainers.

Everything you need, such as a pull buoy and paddles, you carry with you.

The event at Studland has 3 race options, short, medium and long.

John entered the short race, which consisted of 4 runs and 3 swims, totalling 6.4km of running and 2km of swimming. In his first swimrun event, John finished a very impressive 6th place in the men’s race, with a time of 1hr 33min.

As swim run veterans (having done one previous swimrun race!), Andy and I entered the long race, consisting of 6 runs and 5 swims, totalling 18km of running and 5km of swimming. The longest run was around 6km and the longest swim was 1.7km.

Unfortunately, Andy had to pull out of the race during the first swim, due to the reoccurrence of an old injury.

Thankfully the sea was really calm, so the swim sections were quite pleasant and although the scenery around Studland is stunning, the hilly paths made the run sections less pleasant. I finished in 4hr 11minutes, 22nd in the men’s race.

The race is really well organised and is run by an experienced race director and team. The swimrun community is also very friendly and welcoming.
