Nottingham Outlaw Triathlon 2025 – Race report
28 July 2025
Nottingham Outlaw Triathlon 2025 – Race report by Neil Bradfield.
The Event:
Brilliantly organised event by a great company (similar to the Long Course Events). Very athlete focused, friendly, every base covered.
The swim is excellent – although a little dark in the lake. Very similar to Eton Dorney for those who have raced there.
The bike route may not be hilly, but it’s tough. Constant power throughout the 183km bike circuit.
The 43km ultra run too is tough (what marathon isn’t?!!) with a bit of trail and elevation chucked in too.
Me:
Did I enjoy it? No.
Would I do it agin? No.
Seems a bit harsh.
The weekend was brilliant with Andy Smithers, David Beynon and Matt.
Although I’m a seasoned triathlete, this was my first and last full distance. Both Andy and Dave gave me great advice and settled my nerves at 4am when we headed down to the venue start.
But this distance just doesn’t interest me for these reasons:
The training: I found the event was taking over everything – most importantly family.
I hated that. The stress and worry of not training when you should be also constantly plays on your mind too.
The ride: It was so bloody boring. It’s so mentally hard too. I just hated it.
What I like: I like to race and red line all the way.
This type of event just doesn’t suit me. I just haven’t got the time, patience or interest to do this event hard. Back to Olympic distance and the occasional half IM distance for me.
Well done to Dave, Andy and Matt for their great results this weekend.
For those who want some stats:
– you can do this on four months of training (tried and tested).
– you can do this on 22 gels for your nutrition.
– you can wee on the bike whilst moving.
– I came 16th in the swim overall 🤪
