Race Report – Southampton Fast Twitch Triathlon – 27th April 2025
Well this year could not have been different from last year! Weather was lovely – sunny with only a little breeze. This beautiful triathlon is set in Appulmore Leisure Centre – and Mike and I were set up and off at 8.40 and 8.50. I remembered my tri suit which helped!! Even after 18 years of racing, I find the first race of the season is a bit rusty and the nerves are there, but now to be expected (no matter how big or small race is!)
Mike starts after me and tries to chase me, I start 10 mins ahead and try not to let him catch me – makes for good fun! We both swam well (7.10 and 7.15 respectively) then onto bike – no need for extra layers today. And lots of compliments for other competitors and clubs about my Chi Tri Trisuit 👍 Onto the bike and straight into the New Forest, avoiding the ponies! Mostly flattish, just one hill out of Beaulieu. Mike’s spin classes clearly helped me as I was only 1 minute behind him on the bike time wise – and he hadn’t caught me! Onto the run – straight uphill for half a mile – thinking to myself – must do more bricks! I also thought of all those doing London Mararthon and wondered how Alex Yee was doing. Then pushed to stay ahead of Mike. And I did. Great races for both of us, PBs both. And I came second female overall -it was cherry onto of the cake for me.
Next race – Winchester Triathlon BH Monday 5th May if anyone fancies joining us for more practice before Arundel?
