CHI TRI members story – Lucy
4 November 2025
When did you join CHI TRI?
In 2008, a work colleague said, “You cycle to work, right? Fancy joining a relay team for the Chichester Triathlon?”
I’d never heard of triathlon before, but I said yes, and turned up with my mountain bike!
I loved it so much I vowed to come back the following year to do the full event.
That was the first time I’d ever done a race, a swim or a run and it was my first full 10k. Previously I’d only attempted to walk & run a 5k fun run! It marked the start of a whole new chapter, discovering triathlon and an incredible community of people.
I officially joined Chichester Triathlon Club in 2011. I still remember watching Mary and Trudy fly through the transitions and run, totally in awe of their speed and confidence!
I’d often catch Steve and Paul on the uphill cycles, then watch them zoom past me on the downhills.
Over the years, CTC has become such a big part of my life — I’m so grateful to everyone who coaches, supports, and keeps things running behind the scenes. 💙
Any race / nick names?

How did your triathlon journey begin – and where are you now?
You’ve heard the start!
These days, I’m just an overly enthusiastic amateur with a growing collection of “essential” bikes and kit.
What’s Next:
Making my wave 🙈 for my next draft-legal Sprint 🏊♀️🚴♀️🏃♀️ and competing in a chain-gang formation.
Shaving 4 minutes off my IM 70.3 Weymouth time,
Trying my first cycling time trial,
And giving XTERRA a go next season (time for some muddy MTB fun!).
Eventually, I’d love to go full distance — but for now, I just love to Race and Train Together! 💪✨
What was your best event and your worst event – and what were the learnings?
BEST EVENT:
🏆 Best: 2025 World Triathlon Championships Finals – Wollongong, Australia.
It was a dream come true representing GB and to have my boys, Oliver and Joseph supporting me.
❤️ Lesson learned: always double-check your start time 😅, and never leave your race belt in your bag at baggage drop!
WORST EVENT:
Barry Island Triathlon
Simply because… I didn’t register, so despite all the training & prep, I couldn’t race. 🤦♀️
Every other event I’ve loved, rain or shine, slow or fast, even my big bike crash at Cotswolds!
What are your triathlon goals for this year?
To train even more with all the amazing CTC members, keep getting stronger and hopefully faster across all three disciplines, and most of all — to keep loving every second of this sport that’s brought me so much joy, confidence, and laughter. ❤️
Favourite CHI TRI session?
Definitely swimming! 🏊♀️💦
It’s the one session I can actually manage to get to every week — and I absolutely adore the coaching team.
Every session they bring a new mix of drills, sets, and challenges that keep things fresh and fun (even when they’re brutally brilliant 💪😅).
Week by week, they’ve helped us refine everything from our catch and pull to our kick, turns, and water starts. It’s technical, tough, and totally addictive. I always leave the pool smiling!
What 3 tips would you give?
💡 1. If you’ve got a big triathlon goal, book a CTC 1-1 coaching session with Shaun or Linda — it’s honestly game-changing!
😅 2. Always bring cheap flip-flops for a shingle beach start — your feet will thank you!
😊 3. Enjoy yourself, be kind to yourself, and encourage others — we’re all out there chasing our own goals, together.
What would be your 10-15 tracks listing for a SPIN bike or run session?
