Bayside Triathlon Gosport 2025 – Race report

Bayside Triathlon Gosport 2025 – Race report by Mary Cooper.
Just a little fun local sprint today…
Supporting local to make sure the little races are still there next year and was only £40 to enter! Bargain!
We were up at 5, at race by 6.15, porridge eaten and tyres pumped up. Mike was a bit worried as it was 11mph wind and he does not usually get in sea over 10mph (& if any sign of white horses) Also his hamstring has been playing up so just seeing if he can get through a short one…
Into water at 7.29, start 7.30 – straight into the waves for 400m swim, but we had been reassured it was with the tide…Not sure about that… But only 25 athletes per wave so not too crowded at least (and just a straight line along the shore).
Good swims for both of us, then short run to a transition in a huge field. They had put the racking as close together as possible in a tiny cordoned off area – only a 6” gap between racks (?set up by man . . . ???)
But was ok as the swim split people up, so not all in the little pen at once. Off onto the bike course and it was fast flat and technical (my favourite) – having got out swim 5th, I managed to pass them all in transition to ride the first 5k ish out front.
Then I had to stop at a traffic light and Mike and a couple of others caught me. I kept them all in my sights for another 10k then they got away (Wednesday night TTs helping keep the power/effort on).
The wind made it tough going to the west, but helped on return! Back to the transition pen and out onto beautiful run on seafront. Once again tough into the wind after full gas on the bike, but at the first turn it was lovely to get an extra push back to finish.
I had Mike in my sights again. He managed to hold onto the gap and was pleased to finish 7th in 1hr 22, whereas I was Second Lady home in 1hr25.
All done by 9 am. A great day racing.
Hope you had great weekends whatever you were up too.
