Arundel Triathlon Triathlon 2025 – Race report 2 by Mary Cooper.

Well – what a day and what fab racing by all! Outstanding club turnout (25+) members and loads of other members supporting. . .

See Kevin’s post for results!!

Mike kindly got up at 5 to support me in the standard – not so hard when it was light with gorgeous sunrise.

But getting to Arundel, it was cloudy (and a bit chilly) and the usual pre race nerves kicked in. I realised I had my trisuit on backwards 😳🙄 and needed to change quickly in toilet before start, and Lucy S told me after a run warm up, she had put her t shirt in her trisuit pocket – and swum her first 2 lengths with it – so we still learn from what happens in races!

The pool was a balmy 28 degrees with the castle looming large in the background – I always wonder if tris get better than that!

Swim was 30 lengths in standard and 16 for sprint.

Well run drop in start and strong swims then off to transition with great numbered racking.

It was easy to find your hike!

It was a bit chilly out of the cosy pool but straight onto the first hill so cycling hard kept us warm.

The council had kindly resurfaced a lot of the downhill from Whiteways, so great chance to fly past others before putting our TT practice into action on A27, narrowly avoiding the dead fox en route.I had the hill and loop to do again, but didn’t feel so bad second time round and there was minimal traffic.

The sprint guys were held up at times but that’s racing for you.

Back to the lido and off on the run. Unless you are Mike, who started running back to the swim start!! He was soon corrected by the enthusiastic marshals but did made a few club members laugh.🤭

The run was tough after the 2 bike hills, but with its undulating profile – there was a bit of recovery and the final push was flat and tree lined. And lots of support from cycling tri members (great one Andy and Ben) !!

Mike had great run too and felt we had both had left nothing out there.

All the red club tri suits help to spot members a way off and lots of other people cheered for us too !! All in all, lived up to its expectation of a great race – next one Eastbourne Standard for us in a few weeks time – see some of you there!
